The Chanel brand has always been synonymous with glam and classic luxury. This year though, we saw something so outrageously different from their usual aesthetic. The Chanel ‘Hula Hoop’ bag debuted in the Spring/Summer 2013 runway of Paris Fashion Week last Tuesday (Oct. 2) and it definitely stole the show and also raised a lot of questions.

Obviously, this is a far cry from the classic quilted bag that we all know and love. This is the biggest designer bag we’ve seen being paraded on a runway and also the boldest take on a Chanel. It’s about 2 feet in diameter and although the traditional quilting and interlocking C’s are still there, the colossal hula hoop rings are the most dominant feature of the bag.
“It’s for the beach” Karl Lagerfeld explains. “You need space for the beach towel, huh? And then you can put it into the sand and hang things on it.”
It seems that Lagerfeld just solved our endless need for bigger storage space, re-working our beloved Chanel accessory to a bag that can also double as a drying rack. But if you’re not into this bizarre beach bag, then maybe opt for something more classic?
